End of an era as Basin Mayor Juillard retires after 31 years

After 31 years of service to the town of Basin as a councilor and then as mayor, Mayor Phil Juillard is retiring. He presided over his last meeting on Dec. 6 and his term will officially end Monday at 9 a.m. when mayor-elect Amy Kania takes her oath of office.

County officials sworn in; Burns selects new staff

South Big Horn County Hospital receives favorable audit report

Osbon complied  a four-part report containing financial statements, supplementary information, and internal control and compliance reports.

Lady Huskies split weekend games

Riverside and Burlington duked it out through three quarters in a game played in Basin Dec. 17. But the tide turned when Lyndsey Wardell turned a couple of steals into points near the end of regulation, and then put the icing on the cake with a two-pointer to put her Lady Huskies up by seven points. There was nothing much the Lady Rebels could do at that point and the Lady Huskies took the 35-28 victory home with them.

Rebels open season 2-1 at Shootout

The Riverside Rebels battled tough and fell just shy of the goal of a  3-0 record in the Big Horn Basin Shootout, finishing the opening weekend of the 2010-2011 basketball season with a 2-1 record, winning their first two games Friday against Farson-Eden and Big Piney and falling Saturday morning to Dubois.

Burlington got off to a running start at the Big Horn Basin Shootout, outgunning Big Piney in the opener, 63-34, taking a relatively easy victory over Wind River 67-50 in the second, before losing to Lovell, 50-38 in the closer Saturday.

Huskies gain knowledge, experience in three losses

Basin gets its flour mill — 100 years ago

In 1908 Basin was a growing town. The Big Horn Canal had just been completed. The farms on what we now know as Orchard Bench and the North Bench along Golf Course Road were starting to produce good crops of grain, corn and hay. Sugar beets were being talked about, as were beans as suitable crops for this area.
