Lady Huskies turn back Bridger, Shoshoni

A struggling team from Bridger, Mont., was no match for the Lady Huskies in a game played in Burlington Jan. 18. The home team ran away with a 16-3 lead, held their opponents scoreless in the third quarter and won, 47-21.

Lady Rebels overrun by conference foes

The Riverside Lady Rebels ran into a buzz saw at Lovell Friday night where they were topped 54-23 by the Lady Bulldogs, and it wasn’t that much better Saturday when the Rocky Mountain Lady Grizzlies used a nine-point, 16-7 lead, to overrun Riverside 45-27.

Huskies split with non-conference foes; gear up for Pioneers, Eagles this week

The Burlington Huskies split their non-conference games this past weekend, falling to Montana’s Bridger Scouts last Tuesday, 56-44, and then taking 2A Shoshoni into overtime before pulling out a 56-51 victory.

Concealed weapons bill goes too far

We support the Second Amendment wholeheartedly but we have reservations about letting anyone over the age of 21 carry a concealed weapon. That is exactly what will happen if legislation approved by the Wyoming Senate this week is approved by the House later in the session. The House approved a similar bill last year, which was defeated in the Senate.

Bill would send removal petitions to governor

The Big Horn County commissioners have been following several bills closely in the Legislature and are pleased the Senate approved SF77 — County officers removal from office — on second reading Monday.
Sen. Gerald Geis (R-SD20, Worland) said amendments were made to the bill Monday morning from ex-county commissioners Sens. Stan Cooper and Cale Case.

Tolman wins Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest, marches in Cheyenne

Tolman, along with the high school and elementary school winner in the state, read their essays on the steps of the Capitol Building in Cheyenne on Monday, during a Wyoming Equality Day/Martin Luther King Jr. Day ceremony.

Lady Rebels suffer two tough losses

The hyped-up and long awaited rival game between the Riverside Lady Rebels and their counterparts from Greybull Friday night, fell fall short of what fans expected. The Lady Buffs outscored Riverside in all four quarters, and won the game 32-23.

Rebels show improvement despite dropping two

While the Riverside Rebels lost both games last weekend, Coach Kermit Sweeny said the team continues to show progress and continues to improve. The team lost its first conference game of the season 67-45 Friday night and then fell to Tongue River Saturday in Basin 60-44.

Lady Huskies edge Meeteetse, beat Dubois

Burlington opened conference play last weekend with a sweep of Meeteetse, 50-41, at home on Friday and the Lady Rams in Dubois Saturday, 55-34. The Lady Huskies had to play well and overcome a strong first half by both opponents as they begin their quest for a conference title.

G-R wrestlers take first at Don Runner

To wrestling coaches, the Don Runner Invitational has long been considered one of the more important meets on the schedule. Falling each year in the middle of January, it gives teams on the western side of the state a chance to see how they stack up against their top rivals, the ones they will be facing just down the road at the regional tournament.

Huskies ride three-game win streak into conference play this weekend

The Burlington Huskies avenged an earlier loss to the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies Friday night, picking up a 58-44 win. On Saturday they defeated Greybull 34-31, to improve to 3-5.

Basin’s first baby — a bouncing baby boy

Basin welcomed its first baby of the New Year,  a 7-pound, 14-ounce baby boy, Dawson Quinn Cerkan, who was born at 11:03 p.m., Jan. 5 at West Park Memorial Hospital in Cody. He is the son of Nicole Vavra and Tim Cerkan, both of Basin.

Lady Rebels lose first two games of New Year; face Lady Buffs Friday

It will be no holds barred when the Riverside Lady Rebels invade the Buff gymnasium Friday for a 5:30 game with the Greybull Lady Buffs. Both teams are hungry for a conference win, and it makes little difference which team is favored, or which team has the better record when the rivals go head-to-head.

Court rules change how information obtained


Due to new rules of procedure regarding access to court records enacted Jan. 1 by the Wyoming Supreme Court, the Basin Republican Rustler can no longer receive the same Media Disposition Report from Circuit Court it has received for more than six years.

New era brings changes


The new era in Basin town government began Monday night with a two-hour long meeting. The meeting included several changes that Mayor Amy Kania would like to implement and our first impression is that the new changes will be good for the town and good for government as most of them are a way to streamline processes, ensure chain of command, open up processes to the public and provide additional organization to the town government.
